AI

The stories you write on My Spicy Vanilla are some of the most personal content you will ever create. We built the platform so that they stay yours: everything is private by default, we never use your content to train AI models, and we run no third-party analytics or ad trackers.

Privacy also depends on choices only you can make: which email address you sign up with, how you pay, what name you use, and where you keep your finished stories. This guide walks through those choices one by one and explains what each of them protects. None of them are required. Pick the ones that match how private you want to be.

1. Sign up with a separate email address

What it protects: your account is not connected to the inbox you use for work, family, or banking. Verification emails and account notices never appear in a shared or monitored mailbox, and someone who knows your main address cannot guess that you have an account here.

How to do it:

  • Create a new mailbox at a privacy-focused provider such as Proton Mail or Tuta. Both offer free plans and do not require a phone number for a basic account.
  • Use that address when you sign up. If you already have an account, open Manage account, change the Email field and confirm the verification email we send to the new address.
  • Prefer email and password over Sign in with Google. A Google login works well, but it ties the account to your Google identity, which is the opposite of what you want here.
  • Review Email notifications and switch off any optional emails you do not need.

2. Use a pen name, not your real name

What it protects: your real identity never appears next to your writing. Your username is shown beside stories you share to a club and beside your club comments, so it should be a name that cannot be traced back to you.

How to do it:

  • In Manage account, choose a Username that you do not use anywhere else. Reusing a handle from social media makes it easy to connect the two.
  • Leave First name and Last name empty. Both fields are optional and the platform works exactly the same without them.
  • Give your characters invented names, even when a character is inspired by you or your partner. The AI does not need real names to write a convincing story, and an invented name keeps the story anonymous if it is ever read by someone else.
  • When you export a story as a book, the Author name field is where your pen name goes. It is saved inside the file, so keep it consistent with your username.

3. Pay with a gift card instead of a card

What it protects: no card number, billing name or billing address is stored with your account, and there is no recurring charge. The gift card is sold by our partner G2A, so My Spicy Vanilla never sees your payment details and your bank statement shows no line tied to us.

How to do it:

  1. Open the Gift cards page and pick a Premium pass. Passes range from one day to one year.
  2. Complete the purchase on G2A. G2A supports more than 200 payment methods, including cryptocurrency and e-wallets, so you can pick the one that reveals the least about you.
  3. Copy the code you receive and enter it on the Redeem gift card page while logged in. Premium is activated right away.

Gift cards cost a little more than the same plan bought directly on the site, because G2A charges a fee on every sale. The difference is the price of keeping your payment details out of your account.

Keep in mind that G2A has its own account and payment records. A gift card separates your payment from your account here; it does not make the purchase itself anonymous unless you also pay G2A with an anonymous method.

4. Use a strong, unique password and a password manager

What it protects: your stories are only as private as your login. The most common way an account is taken over is a password that was reused on another website and leaked there. A password that exists only for this account closes that door.

How to do it:

  • Install a password manager such as 1Password or Bitwarden and let it generate a long random password for you. You never have to remember it, and the manager fills it in when you log in.
  • If your current password is reused anywhere else, change it now in Change password. We require at least 8 characters, and we reject passwords that are too common or made only of numbers.
  • Store the password for your separate email address in the same manager. The email account is the key to resetting your password here, so it needs the same level of protection.

5. Keep your stories private

What it protects: nobody can read your stories unless you decide to show them. There is no public profile, no discovery feed, and nothing you write is visible to other users by default.

How it works:

  • A story only becomes visible to other people when you share it to a club. Sharing is always a deliberate action, never a default.
  • You can stop sharing at any time from My shared stories. The story is removed from the club immediately.
  • If a story is based on you or someone you know, keep it unshared. Even with invented names, details of a real relationship can be recognisable to people who know you.

6. Export your stories when you are done

What it protects: you hold a copy that does not depend on any online service, including ours. Once your stories are saved on a device you control, you can delete them from the platform without losing anything.

How to do it:

  1. Open the story and click Download, then Story as PDF, EPUB or DOCX.
  2. Choose the chapters and the format. PDF is best for reading and printing, EPUB for e-readers, DOCX for editing in a word processor and HTML for reading in a browser. Downloading the full story or a chapter range is a Premium feature; one chapter at a time is available to everyone.
  3. Save the file somewhere protected, for example an encrypted folder, an encrypted USB drive or a password-protected archive. A downloaded file is only as private as the place where you keep it.

Export files are generated on request and are deleted from our servers 24 hours after they are created. Only the story itself stays in your library. How to Export Your Story as a PDF, EPUB or DOCX Book explains each format, what the file contains and the limits that apply.

7. Delete what you no longer need

What it protects: content that does not exist cannot be exposed. If you have exported a story and do not plan to continue it, removing it from the platform is the simplest privacy measure there is.

How to do it:

  • Delete individual stories, chapters, images and characters from your library whenever you want. My stories lets you select several stories and delete them at once.
  • To remove everything, go to Manage account and choose Delete account. The account enters a 24-hour recovery window in case you change your mind. After that, your profile, email address, stories, characters, images and audio are permanently deleted.
  • Export anything you want to keep before deleting. Deleted content cannot be recovered after the recovery window, and purchased subscriptions cannot be restored.

8. Mind the device you write on

What it protects: most accidental exposure happens on the screen, not on the server. A shared laptop, a browser that stays logged in, or a downloads folder that syncs to a family cloud can reveal more than any website ever will.

  • On a shared or work device, use a private browsing window and log out when you finish. Private windows do not keep history, cookies or form entries after they are closed.
  • Check where your browser saves downloads before you export a story. Move exported files out of folders that are synced or backed up automatically.
  • Keep your device locked with a passcode or biometrics. This protects the password manager, the email account and the exported files at the same time.

What we do on our side

The steps above are what you can control. These are the commitments we make so that the rest is handled for you:

  • Private by default. Your stories, characters, images and audio are visible only to you unless you share them.
  • Never used for AI training. We do not train AI models on your content and we never share it with third parties for training. Your content passes through our licensed AI providers only to generate the result you asked for.
  • No third-party analytics and no ad trackers. Your personal information is never sold or shared for advertising.
  • Automated moderation. Content checks are performed by automated tools. Human review is rare and limited to cases such as a decision you ask us to reconsider.
  • Real deletion. When you delete content or your account, it is removed from our systems after the recovery window, not just hidden.

The full details, including the providers we work with and how long each type of record is kept, are in our Privacy Policy and on the Trust & Safety page.

Final tip: if you only do two things, create the separate email address and move your password into a password manager. Together they take about ten minutes and cover the two most common ways an account becomes linked to a real person. If you have a privacy question that this guide does not answer, write to us and we will help.
