How to Export Your Story as a PDF, EPUB or DOCX Book
Download any story you wrote on My Spicy Vanilla as an illustrated PDF, EPUB or DOCX file. This guide shows which format to pick, how to add a title, pen name and cover, what the file contains, and the limits to know about before you export.
Every story you write on My Spicy Vanilla can leave the website as a real file: a PDF to print or share, an EPUB for your e-reader, a DOCX to keep editing in Word, or an HTML page for the browser. Your illustrations come along, placed exactly where they sit in the chapter.
To start, open any chapter you wrote, click Download at the top and choose Story as PDF, EPUB or DOCX. Only the author of a story sees this option.
Which format should you choose?
Pick the format for the place where you want to read the story. PDF and HTML are free for a single chapter. EPUB, DOCX and exports of several chapters need Premium.
The safe choice when you want to print the story or send a file that looks the same on every device. You get a laid-out A4 book: title, description and cover first, then the chapters with their illustrations and page numbers in the footer. The layout is fixed, so there are no settings for fonts or margins.
EPUB
Made for e-readers and reading apps. The text adapts to the screen, and you can change the font and size in the reader. Kobo, Apple Books and Google Play Books open EPUB files directly; Kindle accepts them through Amazon's Send to Kindle. The book has a cover, a table of contents, a Synopsis page when the story has a description, and your title and pen name in the reader's library.
DOCX
For when the story is not finished yet. Open it in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice or Pages to edit the text, restyle it or prepare a manuscript. Each chapter starts on a new page with a Heading 1 title, so it shows up in Word's navigation pane, and all styles are regular Word styles. DOCX export is new and still in beta, so please tell us if something looks off.
HTML
A single web page you can open in any browser or paste somewhere else with its formatting intact. The illustrations load from our servers, so the page needs an internet connection, and they stop showing if you later delete them from your library.
Step by step
- Open the story from My Stories. Any chapter works.
- Click Download, then Story as PDF, EPUB or DOCX.
- Choose a format.
- Choose chapters: Download this chapter for the one you are reading, or Download selected chapters (Premium) with a From chapter and To chapter. When the range covers everything, the window says Full story.
- For EPUB and DOCX, check the Book title and Author name. EPUB also lets you add a description and a cover; more on these below.
- Click Generate file and keep the progress page open. It usually takes a few seconds per chapter.
- When you see Your download is ready!, click Download and save the file.
The file stays available for 24 hours, then it is deleted from our servers. Your story stays in your library as before, and you can generate the file again at any time.
Book title, author name and cover
EPUB and DOCX files carry details that e-readers and word processors show in their library or document properties. The download window asks for them only with those two formats, and they apply to this file alone: your story keeps its name and cover on the website.
- Book title: prefilled with the story name.
- Author name: prefilled with the first name on your account, if you set one. Use your pen name here; it is saved inside the file.
- Book description (EPUB, optional): a short blurb shown in the e-reader, separate from the story description on the Synopsis page.
- Book cover picture (EPUB, optional): starts as the story cover, or the Writing Pack cover when the story belongs to a pack. Choose cover picks any image from your library and Remove exports without one. The title and author name are printed on the cover, which is cropped to a portrait book shape.
What ends up in the file
The export is the story as it reads on the website: the story name and description, the cover, and every selected chapter in order with its number, title, cover image and the illustrations you placed with Visualise, in the same position and size. Only the current version of each chapter is included; older versions you kept after regenerating are left out. In EPUB and DOCX the description becomes a Synopsis page before the first chapter. See How to Use Illustrations for adding images to a chapter.
A short note at the end says the story was generated with artificial intelligence on My Spicy Vanilla, and the same information is saved in the file's properties. The law requires this marking for AI-generated content, so it cannot be switched off.
Three things stay out:
- Audio narration. Save the MP3 separately with Download and Audio version on the chapter; see How to Use Audio Narration.
- Everything around the story. Character portraits, character and location profiles, Plugins, Writing Pack notes and club comments. The file holds the story text and the images inside the chapters, nothing more.
- What you hid in your settings. With Title style set to Hidden, chapters are labelled Chapter 1, Chapter 2 and so on. With Disable Story Images switched on, the file has no images. In countries where image generation is restricted by law, the chapter cover images are left out as well.
Limits
A few limits apply. Each one shows a message in the download window when you reach it, so here is what each message means.
- Chapters: one file holds up to 100 chapters. "You can export up to 100 chapters at a time." means the range is too long; shorten it and export the rest as a second file. "Please choose a valid chapter range." means To chapter is smaller than From chapter; swap the two numbers.
- Images: one EPUB or DOCX holds up to 250 images, because every image is stored inside the file at full size. Chapter covers count too. A message such as "These chapters contain 300 images, but a single EPUB file can hold at most 250." means the selection is too big; export fewer chapters per file, or pick PDF or HTML, which have no image limit.
- One export at a time: "You already have a download being prepared." means a file is still being built for your account. Wait until it is ready, download it, then start the next one.
- Download window: export files are deleted 24 hours after they are created. "This download is no longer available." means that time has passed; open the story and generate the file again.
- Flagged stories: a story flagged by content moderation cannot be exported.
If you see "Oops! Something went wrong while preparing your download.", try again with fewer chapters. If it keeps failing, write to us.
Good to know
- Every language works. Stories in any language the website offers render correctly, including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi and Thai. Arabic and Hebrew are laid out right to left.
- Need a different PDF layout? Export a DOCX, adjust it in your word processor and save it as PDF from there.
- Edit before you export. The file takes the chapters as they are, so fix typos with Edit on the chapter first.
- One story per file. Stories grouped in a Writing Pack are exported one by one. Chapters you pasted in yourself are included alongside the ones the AI wrote.
Keep your copy safe
The file is delivered only to you and is never published anywhere. Read it offline, back it up, print it or share it with someone you trust. Premium includes commercial use rights for the stories you write, as described in the Terms, so you can also publish or sell the book, as long as the content respects the law and other people's rights.
An exported story is as private as the place where you keep it. How to Write Erotic Stories With Privacy in Mind explains where to store the file and how to clear your library once you have a copy.
Final tip
Start with a single chapter as PDF. It is free, takes seconds, and shows you exactly how the text and illustrations are laid out. Once you like the result, give the story a name, a description and a cover, and export the full story as an EPUB with your pen name as the author.
