Upstate New York, Child-Like Fun Adventure
Imagine spending the day like children, free from worries, completely engrossed in each other, and indulging in some simple, old-school fun. The tour takes place in September, at the beginning of the fall season, when the weather is perfect for outdoor activities.
- Start the day early, driving upstate to take in the scenic views of crisp autumn air while en route to your first adventure: apple picking. You have an impromptu picnic under a tree, the apples being the star of your little feast.
- In the afternoon, take a drive around, and maybe visit a local farmers market. Grab some local produce for a dinner you could cook together later on. As dusk sets, look for the perfect spot to watch the stars. The clear Upstate New York skies offer an ideal set up for stargazing! With a cozy blanket wrapped around the two of you, you identify constellations, make wishes on shooting stars, and perhaps get a little philosophical about life.
- After a hard day's play, head back home or to your accommodation. You prepare dinner together, with the local produce you picked up. You reminisce about the day spent in carefree child-like fun as you wind down for the night.
Preparation steps:
- Pack a picnic blanket, a pair of binoculars for the stars and maybe a telescope if you have one. Don't forget to also pack a basket for the apples and some snacks for your picnic. Dress comfortably - this is going to be an active day, so think layers that can be added or removed based on the weather. Get an early start so you reach the orchard early and beat any crowds.
- For the picnic, you could pack sandwiches or something light and easy to eat. This isn't a grand feast - the highlight should be the fresh apples you've just picked. And don't forget to pack water and a trash bag to clean up afterwards.
- Before you head out for the stargazing part of your date, make sure to check the weather forecast - you want a clear night. Try to find a secluded spot away from city lights for the best viewing experience.
Some tips:
- Remember to wear comfortable clothing and shoes as you'll be doing a lot of walking and possibly some climbing to reach high up apples. It's a good idea to check ahead for apple varieties and the best time for picking them.
- Make sure that your basket for the apples is sturdy enough, you don't want it falling apart midway through your adventure! Also, get to know the best places for stargazing in your area. There might be local clubs or online forums that can help you with the location and even help identify constellations.
- Enjoy the process of cooking together. Don't stress about it being a gourmet meal, this is more about the experience of working together and sharing laughs, so keep the menu simple. The star of the meal being the local produce you have picked earlier during the day.
