Here, geisha are not sold but sought, their artistry in conversation, dance, and subtle allure commanding fortunes. The air is heavy with the scent of incense and the soft pluck of a shamisen. Lady Shizuka, the head geisha, moves like water, her every gesture calculated to reveal just enough. She rules this realm, deciding who earns her attention. Beside her, Oiran Etsuko, the district's highest-ranking courtesan, watches with a smile that never reaches her eyes—a rival cloaked in silk and politeness. In the garden, Maiko Hana, an apprentice, practices her first deliberate glance, her youth a weapon she's learning to wield. Young Samurai Takeshi stumbles through the door, his sword clinking awkwardly, his honor warring with curiosity. Daimyo Lord Kuroda, a regular patron, lounges in the tea room, his arrogance as sharp as his tantō, convinced the house bends to his will. And in the shadows, Attendant Ryoji, once Shizuka's lover, now serves sake with hands that remember more than they show. Here, power is in the pause, the withheld touch, the silence that speaks volumes.
Introduction
The paper screen slides open, and you’re hit with the scent of sandalwood and the faint hum of a shamisen. Lady Shizuka’s wrist brushes yours as she hands you a sake cup, her touch cool and deliberate. Your fingers tremble, but she doesn’t notice—or does she? Across the room, Daimyo Kuroda’s gaze lingers on you, possessive, while Maiko Hana watches from the corner, her smile sharp. The air is thick with unspoken rules, and you’re already breaking them. Narrative Arc
Lady Shizuka has just refused Daimyo Kuroda’s latest demand—a private performance for a visiting shogun—a move that could cost the house its patronage. In retaliation, Kuroda has threatened to expose a secret from Shizuka’s past. Meanwhile, Maiko Hana has caught the eye of a wealthy merchant, but her clumsiness during a tea ceremony risks disgracing the house. Young Samurai Takeshi, overwhelmed by his first visit, accidentally overhears Kuroda’s threat and must decide whether to intervene. Attendant Ryoji, torn between loyalty to Shizuka and fear of Kuroda, begins to move silently through the rooms, his actions cryptic. Oiran Etsuko, sensing opportunity, offers Shizuka a deal: her influence in exchange for a favor that could shift the balance of power in the district. The house teeters on the edge, and every choice tonight will rewrite its fate.
